From metal closures to modular buildings: nearly two centuries of metal craftsmanship in Mussidan.
the origin
The custom manufacturing industry, since 1831
In Mussidan, metal has been shaped for nearly two centuries. Heir to the forges that once energized the Isle and Crempse valleys, the town saw the establishment of the Seillan workshops at the end of the 19th century, introducing an English process to the Périgord region: the corrugated sheet metal shutter.
Becoming the Société Anonyme de Travaux Métalliques — SATM —, these workshops established themselves as the oldest metal closure factory in France. Shop shutters, grilles, louvers, spiral staircases, dumbwaiters: Mussidan's fabrications equipped storefronts and buildings across the country.
Atemco founding date
1831
Custom manufacturing is not a recent slogan for us: it is in our DNA. The SATM catalog of the early 20th century already stated: staircases "built to the exact dimensions of the spaces they are meant to occupy", closures designed for every opening, every storefront, every use.
A century later, the commitment remains unchanged. Only the scale has grown

Our values
Our principles guide our commitments
Local authorities, industrial, or tertiary enterprises: we provide solutions tailored to each of your requirements.
Custom manufacturing above all
No rigid catalogs, no enforced standards: each building is engineered to the exact requirements, just as SATM staircases were back in 1900.
The factory over the construction site
Manufacturing in our plant ensures complete control over quality, schedules, and safety, delivering finished, ready-to-occupy buildings directly to the site.
The roots of a Périgord SME
One plant, one team, one dedicated contact: at ATEMCO, clients engage directly with those who design and manufacture their building.

Today
"People often contrast the factory with the workshop, industry with craftsmanship. This is a false dichotomy: construction tradition applies seamlessly to off-site building. At ATEMCO, artisanal craftsmanship integrates into modern construction's industrial, normative, and regulatory vision, gaining precision without ever compromising on rigor. And the future will advance even further: parametric design will enable us to tailor every structure precisely to its intended use, both in its dimensions and aesthetic finish. The bespoke approach of our predecessors, driven by tomorrow's tools."

Commitment
An Industrial and Human Adventure
Over the decades, this journey has been recognized by visits from elected officials and government members, including Roland Dumas, minister and prominent Périgord figure, hosted at the Mussidan site in the 1980s.
Today, every ATEMCO building originates from the same plant on Avenue du Général de Gaulle, where 40 employees carry on the craftsmanship: accurately measuring your requirements, and manufacturing the solution.
From yesterday's shop shutters to today's school complexes, ATEMCO practices the same core trade: custom industrial manufacturing.
