Modular Buildings: Is a Building Permit Required?

Choosing a modular building offers a fast, flexible solution for diverse spatial requirements, whether temporary or permanent. But what regulatory procedures need to be anticipated?

Answering all your questions about modular construction

Questions & Answers

Because our modular buildings are full-fledged constructions: engineered foundations, factory-manufactured steel frames, insulation, and equipment strictly compliant with thermal regulations and public-access building (ERP) or labor code requirements. They are built to last—and, thanks to their modular nature, they are also designed to evolve: expanding, reconfiguring, or even relocating whenever usage demands.

Off-site construction saves valuable time: while the site is being prepared (foundations, utilities), your building is already being manufactured at our Mussidan plant. Lead times depend on project specifications, engineering studies, and permits; we commit to a precise schedule from the preliminary study phase, and our teams are accustomed to strict deadlines—a school complex must be delivered for the start of the school year, not after.

Yes. From the Dordogne region, Atemco designs, manufactures, and installs buildings across all of France—Île-de-France, Centre-Val de Loire, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Nouvelle-Aquitaine…—and occasionally carries out international projects. Off-site factory manufacturing makes distance irrelevant: your building travels fully finished, and on-site assembly takes only a few days.

It is rooted in our heritage: for over a century in Mussidan, our plant has been manufacturing made-to-measure solutions—yesterday stairs and metal shutters, today complete buildings. We have no fixed catalog: every project is engineered to the exact specifications of your usage, your site, and your regulatory requirements, from the floor plan to the cladding finish.

Both. We deliver public-access buildings (ERP)—schools, universities, recreation centers, sports changing rooms, up to Category 3 ERP facilities—as well as commercial facilities governed by the French Labor Code: offices, industrial premises, and technical facilities. This dual regulatory expertise is your guarantee: your building complies with its operational requirements right from the design stage.

In three steps: outline your project via our quote request form; our engineering teams will review it and provide a proposal and schedule; then, a dedicated project manager will support you from initial engineering through to installation. You can also contact us directly at +33 (0)5 53 80 81 82.
